Great Fun at March Work Days

Table of Contents

We recently held two volunteer work days at the Historic Stanley Home on March 9th and March 16th. Approximately 20 volunteers and board members gathered to start the work of returning the Stanley Home to its original 1904 appearance. The early 1900’s was a very different time in the history of Estes Park. It was a time of great enthusiasm for creating a new town that had modern conveniences as well as a quieter time with appreciation for the beautiful views and nature that surround the Stanley Home.

During the two work days, volunteers removed the glass that enclosed the front porch, and there is now an unobstructed view of Longs Peak as when the home was built. The porch was a favorite place for F.O. to sit and feed the birds and appreciate the wonders of his peaceful summer home.

Volunteers also removed the non-period home furnishings that did not reflect the style of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. All the carpet has been removed, and we can now see the beautifully crafted wood floors that were milled in what is now Rocky Mountain National Park at Bierstadt Lake and Hollowell Park.

There were also volunteers who provided snacks and lunch, and the workers met up for dinner to celebrate the group’s accomplishments. We are incredibly fortunate to have such wonderful volunteers, proving once again that this is a community effort!

There is still much to be done! If you are interested in donating your time and talents, please visit our volunteer page at Stay tuned for more opportunities to work together on the next phase of this journey.
